Pat Robertson’s Wrong – Haiti’s the Flying Spaghetti Monster’s Work
Robertson’s wrong, of course. It’s really because the
Flying Spaghetti Monster was feeling neglected in Haiti and
jealous of Vodou.
Something that’s struck me since being in Southern California in a
couple of similarly-sized earthquakes to the one that just struck
Haiti, that did little damage, is how remarkably worse the damage and
especially casualty rates are in in places like Haiti where few can
afford anti-earthquake measures. It’s pretty unfair, really.
A fellow computer engineer, Rick Jones, wrote at the end of a
Coates’ open thread
Several things struck me as I was either reading or watching stories
on the earthquake in Haiti – one was the almost total lack of rebar
showing in any of the images of collapsed concrete structures – as one
of my coworkers put it, not even chickenwire…..
